Alhoewel ik met het maken van presentaties mijn brood verdien, schoot ik bij het idee dat ik een presentatie voor 800 man moest geven toch behoorlijk in de stress. Want ja, als je wordt gevraagd om tijdens de presentatie in te gaan op jouw persoonlijke ontwikkeling als Hotello, is dat ook voor een \u2018professional\u2019 als ik een behoorlijke uitdaging. Toch bleek ook voor mij niets minder waar! Toen ik begon met het opschrijven van mijn verhaal, bleek dit allereerst een enorm emotionele ervaring. Ik heb alles op papier gezet terwijl de tranen over mijn wangen liepen, en ik kan je vertellen: een betere zelfreflectie bestaat er haast niet. Door het gestructureerd uitwerken van mijn eigen levensverhaal ben ik enorm gegroeid en werd ik gedwongen om \u00e9\u00e9n van mijn doorgewinterde motto\u2019s opnieuw leven in te blazen: \u2018<em>get comfortable with the uncomfortable\u2019<\/em>. Het deed me beseffen dat ik tot een aantal jaar geleden altijd bezig was mijn eigen grenzen op te zoeken en bleef doorleren. Tijdens mijn\u00a0<em>twenties<\/em>\u00a0deed ik niets anders dan spanning in mijn leven cre\u00ebren, terwijl ik nu geen die hard\u00a0<em>thrill seeker<\/em>\u00a0meer ben. Ik geef toe, ik sta liever achter de schermen dan ervoor. Toch vind ik het wel nodig dat ik deze rol zo nu en dan wel bekleed. Want hoe kun je mensen nu beter helpen dan vanuit je eigen ervaring? Wanneer je een uitdaging zoals deze \u2013 want geloof me, dat was het absoluut \u2013 zelf aangaat, verkrijg je ook nieuwe inzichten en hou je jezelf scherp. Dat zorgt er ook voor dat ik als ondernemer ook blijf groeien. Het is namelijk heel makkelijk om een adviesrol te bekleden en een oordeel klaar te hebben, maar het zelf doen, dat is een heel ander verhaal. Ervaring blijven opdoen is zonder twijfel essentieel. Ik wilde altijd goed zijn in presenteren en ben die uitdaging dan ook opnieuw aangegaan. De presentatie was puur en mooi, maar ik ben eerlijk: het had beter gekund. Het verhaal is er niet uitgekomen zoals ik van tevoren had bedacht, mijn voorbedachte bruggetjes en haakjes heb ik lang niet allemaal gebruikt. Maar dat geeft helemaal niet! Uiteindelijk is het belangrijkste dat de boodschap achter jouw verhaal goed overkomt, zelfs als niet alles loopt zoals je had gepland. En daarom is een goede structuur onmisbaar.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-particle_enable=\"false\" data-particle-mobile-disabled=\"false\" class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-3f86190 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"3f86190\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-195a3ce\" data-id=\"195a3ce\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2da3ca46 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2da3ca46\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Content, design &amp; delivery<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2b26bf5 linkfix elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2b26bf5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>De drie\u00a0<em>key elements<\/em>\u00a0van een goede presentatie zijn \u2018Content\u2019, \u2018Design\u2019 en \u2018Delivery\u2019. Bij het uitwerken van mijn verhaal heb ik me dan ook vastgeklampt aan deze volgorde. Mijn focus lag eerst op de content van mijn stuk. Nu is een goede structuur cre\u00ebren bij een productpresentatie een stuk gemakkelijker dan bij een persoonlijk verhaal. Een persoonlijk verhaal structureren vereist namelijk een heel ander soort denken. Ik heb mijn verhaal dan ook meer dan 100 keer op papier gezet voordat het werd zoals ik het wilde. Ik heb hierbij vooral geleerd om het klein te houden; een groot, uitgebreid verhaal is misschien wel mooi, maar kan voor te veel afleiding zorgen. Je\u00a0<em>story<\/em>\u00a0moet sturend zijn, want uiteindelijk gaat het erom dat jouw boodschap duidelijk overkomt. Bruggetjes maken van het ene deel van het verhaal naar het andere deel is dan ook cruciaal om je publiek te laten begrijpen waar zij zich in het verhaal bevinden. Theoretisch wist ik dit allang, maar ik moest dit opnieuw zelf ervaren om dit goed in de vingers te krijgen.<\/p><p>Pas toen mijn content\u00a0<em>final<\/em>\u00a0was, ben ik begonnen aan het design van mijn presentatie. Hierbij had ik al gauw door dat het concept van een TopTalk het vertellen van mijn verhaal lastig maakte: een persoonlijk verhaal zo timen dat je het kunt vertellen aan de hand van 30 seconden per slide zonder de emotie erachter te verliezen is een enorme uitdaging. Het design moet namelijk een ondersteunende functie hebben, anders kan het afleiding veroorzaken. Uiteindelijk heb ik 3 volle dagen gewijd aan het bedenken, ontwikkelen, uitwerken en uitvoeren van de visuals. Drie hilarische dagen, dat dan weer wel! Ik heb me doodgelachen tijdens het creatieve proces en ik heb de passie en creativiteit die van de presentatie afspatten dan ook mede te danken aan mijn strategische partner,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bkn-productions.com\/\">BKN Productions<\/a>. Het heeft een hoop tijd gekost, maar het resultaat is het meer dan waard geweest!<\/p><p>Last but not least, het element \u2018Delivery\u2019. H\u00e9t punt waar mensen vaak bij in de stress schieten \u2013 waaronder ikzelf. Niet alleen het uitwerken van mijn verhaal, maar ook het overbrengen ervan, bracht veel emoties met zich mee. Hier werd ik dan ook onwijs nerveus van, want een persoonlijk verhaal vertellen aan 800 man is toch niet te vergelijken met het presenteren van een onderzoek of een nieuw product. Iets waar ik mezelf dan ook op betrapte \u2013 en waar veel mensen last van hebben tijdens het presenteren \u2013 is mijn ongereguleerde ademhaling. Wat zenuwen wel niet met je kunnen doen\u2026 Dit bewijst maar weer dat je ademhaling ook een essenti\u00eble rol speelt tijdens het presenteren. Vergelijk het presenteren eens met sporten op topsportniveau. Veel topsporters ademen vlak voor zij moeten presteren een aantal keer diep in. Het zorgt er niet alleen voor dat zij hun zenuwen onder controle krijgen, maar het zorgt er ook voor dat hun lichaam meer zuurstof opneemt. Een hoop, dat moge duidelijk zijn! Na het geven van deze presentatie is mijn ambitie om te innoveren binnen de presentatiewereld alleen maar meer gegroeid. Ik wil afstappen van de standaard slides en meer gaan werken met video, om zo keynote speakers te kunnen ondersteunen met innoverend beeld. Daar moet wel bij gezegd worden dat het belangrijk is om de tijd te nemen voor dit soort uitdagingen. Goed werk kost veel tijd, dat is nu eenmaal zo. Maar, uiteindelijk zorgt een goede\u00a0<em>time investment<\/em>\u00a0er altijd voor dat je als spreker een onvergetelijke indruk kunt achterlaten. Als laatste wil ik benadrukken hoeveel meer respect ik voor keynote speakers heb gekregen na deze ervaring. Door zelf voor een grote groep te presenteren ben ik er weer heel anders tegenaan gaan kijken en besef ik me goed dat alleen al op het podium staan een hele prestatie is.
